The island of Phuket is famous for its beaches and bars but the club scene is also worth checking out. Patong is where almost all the late night action occurs but even if you’re staying at Kata, Karon or one of the other stunning beaches it’s easy to hail a tuk-tuk and get your boogie on.
The latest addition to Patong’s club scene is the most spectacular. Designed by the team from Bangkok’s famous Bed Supperclub, Sound (Jungceylon, 193 Rath-U-Thit Rd) is one of the best looking clubs I’ve ever seen! It feels like you’re in a sci-fi movie and there’s a 19 meter long interactive LED screen behind the enormous bar, so if you have to wait for one of Sound’s special cocktails you won’t be bored. Having just opened its doors, Sound is still establishing its clientele but will please fans of electronic, hip-hop and house music with a mix of local DJs and international guests.
Seduction (Soi Bangla) used to be Patong’s glamour club before Sound landed but it’s still worth walking down the red carpet to party with a mix of Thais and tourists. The first floor is R&B, the second floor is house and there’s a great vibe almost every night of the week.
Not far from Seduction, Boat Bar (Paradise Complex, Rath-U-Thit Rd) is a long-running gay club offering free entry, a fun atmosphere and live shows at midnight and 1.30am. It doesn’t get going until after midnight but often lasts until dawn with a mixed crowd of Thai and farang (foreigners).
Another great late night option is Safari, located on the outskirts of Patong on the road to Karon. Like Boat Bar, there’s no point showing up before midnight but if you want to greet the dawn then you can do so dancing outdoors in the jungle-themed environment. The crowd is up-for-it party people and entry is free, so you can’t go wrong.
